Mission Statement
We are St Joseph Parish, a Roman Catholic Christian community of faith in the Belmont area.
We share a common relationship with Jesus Christ centered in our celebration of the Eucharist
We are disciples of the Lord, committed to sharing the Good News of Christ through worship, education and acts of charity.
We strengthen and encourage each other through prayer, presence, and the sacraments.
We strive by example to express our faith and to witness the message of Christ by loving God and neighbor.
In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit; he cried out, "What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!" Jesus rebuked him and said, "Quiet! Come out of him!" - Mk 1:23-25

SPECIAL COLLECTION

This weekend, January 28th & 29th, the special collection supports the Church in Latin America (CLA). The CLA provides support for pastoral projects in financially poor dioceses in Latin America and the Caribbean. CLA is making it possible for the Catholic faithful in the Western hemisphere to help each other.

The red baskets will be at the doors of the church next weekend February 4th & 5th to receive your kind offerings for our monthly contribution to the Pine Street Inn in Boston. With the cold weather upon us there are always the extra needs we are called upon to provide to this worthwhile parish support program we offer the Pine Street Inn. THE SHROUD OF TURIN

The Shroud of Turin is a centuries old linen cloth that bears the image of a crucified man: a man that millions believe to be Jesus of Nazareth. Is it really the cloth that wrapped his crucified body, or is it simply a medieval forgery, a hoax perpetrated by some clever artist? Modern science has completed hundreds of thousands of hours of detailed study and intense research on the Shroud. It is, in fact, the single most studied artifact in human history, and we know more about it today than we ever have before. And yet, the controversy still rages....

2/6 - MONDAY MORNING MOVIES: SHROUD

The official film for the 2010 Exposition of the Shroud. Written by Ian Wilson, it tells the story of the Shroud for our modern age of high technology to show the image of the Man on the Shroud as never before seen. This film does not shrink from examining the religious significance of what has become the single most studied article in history. Monday Morning Movies meets in the Parish Hall following the 9:00 a.m. Mass. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.

Dear friends,

I offer my most sincere thanks to all who helped to make my installation as your pastor such a beautiful and meaningful celebration. I am very grateful to Bishop Edyvean for his presence and for presiding on behalf of Cardinal Seán. I thank our Director of Music, Charles Connor, our Assistant Director of Music, Dorothy Bowe, our cantor Denise Ryan, and our wonderful choir for enhancing the celebration so beautifully with music. Shelia Finigan and the Arts & Environment committee did a beautiful job decorating the church. Our Masters of Ceremony added such professionalism and dignity to our worship. I’m grateful to my brother priests who honored me with their presence, including Carmelite Fathers Anthony and Kevin, Fr. Marty Dzengelski , representing St. Patrick Parish in Watertown, former St. Joseph parish parochial vicars Fr. Sean McCarthy and Fr. Tim Harrison, as well as my wife’s brother, Fr. Bryan Parrish, Assistant to the Vicar General. Carmen Coutinho, Sheryl Teti and Kathy Ryan did a great job arranging all the details for the delicious dinner reception. The fantastic St. Joseph Parish Staff provided great support. My family was very appreciative of the warm hospitality and spirit of celebration offered by everyone present. I feel so very honored to be your pastor and pray that I will serve you well.

Blessings and peace,
Fr. Thom

BOOKS GROUP

All are welcome to join us as we discuss Augustine's Confessions on Monday, February 6th at 7p.m. "The Confessions are not Augustine's autobiography. They are, instead, a deliberate effort, in the permissive atmosphere of God's felt presence, to recall those crucial episodes and events in which he can now see and celebrate the mysterious actions of God's prevenient and provident grace. Thus he follows the windings of his memory as it re-presents the upheavals of his youth and the stages of his disorderly quest for wisdom." Albert Outler, Fordham University.

Upcoming Books include:

  • Monday, March...Life of the Beloved (Henri Nouwen)
  • Monday, April 2...Ascent of Mount Carmel (St. John of the Cross)
  • Monday, May 7...A Burnt Out Case (Graham Greene)
  • Monday, June 4...The Book of Esther (Old Testament), the Book of Jonah (Old Testament), and Lincoln's 2nd Inaugural Address
  • Monday, July 2...Fatherless (Brian J. Gail)

More information about the St. Joseph Spiritual Classics and Books Group can be found on the parish website at: www.stjoseph.belmont.ma.us/faithformation/bookgroup.htm
