Mission Statement
We are St Joseph Parish, a Roman Catholic Christian community of faith in the Belmont area.
We share a common relationship with Jesus Christ centered in our celebration of the Eucharist
We are disciples of the Lord, committed to sharing the Good News of Christ through worship, education and acts of charity.
We strengthen and encourage each other through prayer, presence, and the sacraments.
We strive by example to express our faith and to witness the message of Christ by loving God and neighbor.
Then from the cloud came a voice that said, "This is my chosen Son; listen to him." After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They fell silent and did not at that time tell anyone what they had seen. - Lk 9:35-36

"THE LIGHT IS ON FOR YOU"

At Saint Joseph Parish, all the churches of the Belmont/Watertown collaborative and all the parishes and chapels throughout the Archdiocese of Boston will be open for individual confessions. Inviting Catholics to experience Christ's healing love through the Sacrament of Reconciliation is one of the major initiatives of Cardinal Sean and the Archdiocese this year. The Archdiocese has set up a website: www.TheLightIsOnForYou.org to help you prepare. This website has videos on the Sacrament of Reconciliation, sheets on how to make a good confession, answers to frequently asked questions and much more. Please make plans to come on any Lenten Wednesday - from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. (March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th & 31st ). Let us spread the word of this special outreach of mercy and God's loving forgiveness! Here at Saint Joseph's the location for the Sacrament will be in the comfort of the front office (parlor) of the rectory at 345 Waverley Street - just across from the church, on the corner of Common & Waverley. SPIRITUAL CLASSICS & BOOKS GROUP

Since 1976, Mother Antonia, now 78 years old, has lived in a cell at La Mesa in Tijuana, one of Mexico's most notorious prisons, caring for the inmates. What's even more remarkable is her background and the comfortable life she left behind for a life of service. She was born Mary Clarke and grew up as a striking blond beauty amid movie stars and money in 1930s Beverly Hills. She endured two failed marriages, ran the family business and raised seven children before becoming Mother Antonia and moving into La Mesa at age 50. Mary Jordon and Kevin Sullivan, Pulitzer Prize winning reporters with The Washington Post, spent three years researching Mother Antonia's journey and have written her story, "Prison Angel.* Join us Monday, March 1st at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Library to discuss her story.

COLLABORATIVE RECONCILIATION SERVICE

Regular confession is a healthy spiritual practice. Each sincere Catholic needs to periodically, every month or two, do a good examination of conscience holding themselves to the standard of Christ. Each person should reflect on how well he has lived a "Christ like life" by following the commandments and the teachings of the Church. The healing grace of the sacrament of reconciliation washes away sin and gives us the strength to avoid that sin again. I am sure this is why Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II went to confession weekly. As we begin our Lenten preparations for our Easter celebration, may we take full advantage of this beautiful sacrament which draws us closer to the Lord. Join us Sunday (today), February 28th at 3:00 p.m.; Saint Luke Church, 132 Lexington Street, Belmont

WHERE DOES ALL THAT MONEY GO?

This is an often asked question about the Sunday Offertory Collection. And, the question is asked in many different ways: How much goes to the Archdiocese? What are you spending 'our' money on? How far do you stretch those dollar bills? The answer, of course, is that the Sunday offerings are used to "pay our way" for the daily operations of the parish. However, when there is a collection designated by the Archdiocese for a particular purpose (Women Religious, Home Missions, Propagation of the Faith, Catholic University of America, to name a few), the amount received in those envelopes is sent directly for that purpose. The Parish's Grand Annual Collection helps to offset the "summer slump" which creates quite a deficit in the operating budget since the income drops and the outlay remains constant. The Annual Archdiocesan Appeal is designated for the programs and ministries of the entire Archdiocese of Boston. Here are a few of the regular expenses incurred in our operating costs and the reason why we ask your assistance only once a year for the "Utilities & Energy Collection" which will be received NEXT weekend, March 6th & 7th, at all the Masses. Even if you could add an extra $3, $5, $10 or $20 to your regular offering it would help a great deal with all that is listed here. Thanks very much!

THE SANCTUARY CANDLE

In response to many requests from our parishioners, we are now offering, as a memorial remembrance, the Sanctuary Candle which burns 24/7 next to the Tabernacle in the upper and lower church. The name of the person being remembered will be published in the bulletin each time a new candle is lighted. The offering is $25 per week, and you may make an offering for the Sanctuary Candle by sending your donation to the Parish Office. For the next two weeks the candles will burn in memory of Sam Fortuna.
