|"Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to dress yourself and go where you wanted; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go." He said this signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when he had said this, he said to him, "Follow me." - Jn 21:18-19|

BECOMING MORE INTENTIONAL DISCIPLES (By Sr. Pat Boyle,
Associate Director, Office of Pastoral Planning)
At a recent Archdiocesan Pastoral Council (APC) meeting, Fr. Paul and I spoke about the pastoral plan and where we have progressed to thus far. The more we talk about Disciples in Mission and ways to be engaged in Evangelization, the more people are energized by the possibilities of enlivening parish life. That very thing happened at the APC meeting last week. As people’s understanding and interest rose, the members of the council began to talk about ways to communicate about Disciples in Mission with the vicariates of the Archdiocese that they represent.
One observation made at that APC meeting was that Parish Councils and many parishioners have very little awareness of what intentional disciples or intentional evangelization looks like. To better understand this concept, a suggestion that was made that members of the APC consider reading a book that was recently published called, Forming Intentional Disciples.
What are “intentional disciples” you might ask? Intentional disciples are people who are deliberate and purposeful in their following of Christ. When we get to the point of realizing that we need to be more intentional about fostering our relationship with Christ and allowing that relationship to be what motivates our actions – evangelization will be happening!
As you reflect on your discipleship, do you see yourself as having a strong and loving relationship with Christ? Is that relationship what guides your actions, words and behaviors toward others? If not, what do you need to do to become a more intentional disciple?
